Golfing in France

You’re on the back nine, two strokes up, enjoying the pristine fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and the majestic views of the Mediterranean. Everything has been perfect. Tee time was punctual; the caddie, helpful. You even have your own golf clubs, flown in especially for this golf holiday.

Drinks and nibbles await you in the Clubhouse once you’ve finished.  Playing golf has rarely been so good.

The nearby Castle of Suscino, the Chateau of the Dukes of Brittany and the medieval cities of Vannes and Guérande make for interesting sight-seeing off the course.

Five star Terre Blanche is an oasis of luxury in Provence.  The suites and villas are spread out among independent country houses on the hillside, offering panoramic views and lush provençal vegetation. There are four heated pools, a kids club, Le Faventia restaurant with one Michelin star, three other restaurants with different ambiances, and, of course, the golf course.
Terre Blanche has been ranked the best golf resort in continental Europe by Golf World three times in a row.

Domaine de Manville
The Domaine de Manville is a five star hotel at the foot of the Alpilles, a superb destination by itself.  30 rooms, suites and villas, all decorated with a unique style, offer you luxury and comfort. The sumptuous surroundings, the century old plane trees, the Provençal light… the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday.
To top it off, the Domaine de Manville offers an 18-hole golf course, nestled in the rocky setting of Les Baux, planted with the pine, oak and olive trees of the region and respectful of natural resources. It is also the first golf course in France to be eco-certified.

Some of our favorite courses

Golf de Chantilly
30 miles north of Paris, near the Château de Chantilly, the Golf de Chantilly is set in the forest of Île de France. The golf course was designed by the English architect Tom Simpson in 1920 and still retains that British atmosphere.  50 hectares, two 18-hole courses, over 6000 meters… no wonder it’s considered one of the top golf courses in France.

Golf de Fontainebleau
Playing the Golf de Fontainebleau is like having an adventure, amongst the rocks, heathers, gorse and bunkers. This golf course was crowned the 6th best in continental Europe and number 1 in France. The fairways of 18-hole course are lined by pine trees, birch, oak and beech, some of which are over a century old, all adding to the course’s natural beauty.

Golf d’Hardelot
Located in the Pas-de-Calais 200 kilometers from Paris, the Golfs d’Hardelot sports two separate 18-hole courses.  The Pine course, designed in 1934 by Tom Simpson and embodying the traditional British style, takes you through a beautiful forest. The Dune course, opened in 1991, has a modern layout and style completely different from the Pine course.  It offers superb panoramas between lakes, dune mounds and wooded valleys.

Golf du Médoc
The Golf du Médoc celebrates its location in wine country with the names of its two courses: Châteaux and Vignes (vines, for the grapes grown nearby). The Châteaux course is pure Scottish tradition: wide fairways bordered by heather, gorse and broom, reminiscent of Sunningdale and Swinley Forest.  The Vignes course offers a completely different golfing experience with its long pars, elaborate greens and judiciously placed obstacles.

Terre Blanche
For six years, Terre Blanche has been ranked as the best golf resort in continental Europe. The site has two separate courses. Le Riou, 18 holes, hosts the first stage of the Ladies European Tour Access Series every year.  Le Château is a demanding 18-hole course offers a challenging game with its bunkers, flat positions, and spectacular water hazards.  World-class golfing.

Golf de Spérone
Perhaps the most spectacular of all French golf courses, the Golf de Spérone lies atop rugged white cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean in the south of Corsica. The greens and fairways are interspersed with the fragrant maquis, cliffs adding as much difficulty to the course as the bunkers. This golf course is so beautiful it is no wonder it attracts 20,000 golfers from around the world each year.
