Planning Your Alpine Winter

When is the best time to ski in the French Alps?

The season generally runs from December to mid-April. Christmas and February half-term bring the most festive atmosphere, while January and late March offer quieter slopes and exceptional value. High-altitude resorts such as Val d’Isère and Courchevel remain snow-sure to the end of the season.

Which French ski resort is best for luxury travellers?

Courchevel 1850 is the most refined address in the Alps, with palace hotels and an extraordinary concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants. Val d’Isère suits committed skiers, Méribel families, and Chamonix those drawn to raw alpine grandeur.

Do we need to be experienced skiers?

Not at all. Private instructors are matched to your level, from first turns to off-piste couloirs — and many of our travellers spend as much time in the spa, at the table, and on a dog sled as they do on the slopes.

Can you arrange a private chalet with staff?

How far in advance should we book?

The finest chalets and palace suites for Christmas, New Year, and February are secured six to twelve months ahead. The earlier we begin, the more freedom you have.
